Lamps (since time immemorial) have played a huge and significant role in interior design by providing functional and aesthetic lighting solutions.

Lamps have the ability to set an atmosphere, highlight design elements and create focal points in a room. Because lights come in different sizes, shapes and customizations; they can be customized to match diverse design theses, enhance a room’s aesthetics and also affect the functionality of a space.

This article will highlight 10 unique designs of lamps and lighting.

1. Scroll Scones by Olivia Barry/By Hand

Olivia Barry is known to create clean-lined ceramic lighting that draws from her training in industrial design and ceramics. Olivia is an Industrial Designer and lifelong Ceramist; she is known for her dinnerware collections for Royal Stafford, Crate and Barrel & Bloomingdales.

Olivia’s Scroll Scones are designed in a way that the body of the lampshades the glare from the bulb, creating a luminaire, both bright and dimmable.

2. Phase 01 Chandelier by Anony

This lighting design by Anony is inspired by the exquisite balancing act found in hanging kinetic mobiles. This lighting design is an interpretation of a circle in 3 forms; a sphere, a melted semi-circle and a disc.

It’s made of steel, aluminium and plexiglass and finishes in brushed brass, black nickel and antique bronze.

3. Peaks Down by Michael Anastassiades

Peaks (lighting) is a family of pendants, that’s composed of a string of elongated cones in different configurations. It can be displayed as a single, double or triple arrangement; either pointing up or down depending on your preferred direction of light.

When the light is put off, the peak form appears very schematic — like it was borrowed from a geometric still life.

4. Ascoli Collection by Astro Lighting

The Ascoli collection combines minimal, clean lines along the basic rules of geometry to create a sense of priority, with its functions guiding the design.

5. Crystal Grid by Preciosa Lighting

The Crystal Grid is a compelling installation that combines the clarity of geometry with the sparkle of hand-blown crystal. It’s built using hand-blown crystal tubes with delicate bubbles inside.

Its composition is made using perpendicular lines, which creates a feeling of strength and clarity.

6. Vertigo Nova by Petite Friture

This is the latest light collection by the French design brand and it includes a sculptural shade that comes in black or white.

The collection is available in 6 colours for the Vertigo pendants of 140 and 200cm and in 2 colours for the 110cm model.

7. Fox Floor Lamo by Nemo Lighting

The dimmable LED floor lamp structure and base are painted with steel matte black. It also has an aluminium spot with an optical honeycomb filter for antiglare.

Nemo was founded in Milan in 1993 by Franco Cassina, and they’ve been referenced in the field of illumination as an inspiration for Italian and international design.

8. Celestial Elements by Jason Bruges Studio

Jason Bruges Studio is an eponymous brand and it has become internationally renowned for producing innovative installations, groundbreaking works and interventions.

Jason Bruges, a multi-disciplinary artist and designer makes sure his work blends architecture with interaction design and uses a high-tech, mixed-media palette to explore dynamic spatial experiences.

Celestial Elements lighting draws on the experience of blending architecture with interaction design. Commissioned by LG Electronics, the studio carefully crafted a dynamic experience that reinterprets each product’s uniqueness into light and movement to convey nature in art.

The luminous mixed media installations were created as a series of artworks that embody stars, rain, the moon and ice.

9. Pendolo by Workstead

Workstead, a multidisciplinary studio has been outed by AD100 as a global leader in design. Based in Connecticut, the lighting studio takes a threefold approach to design excellence in their product line as well as custom works.

The Pendolo lighting explores the cone from across multiple scales, from a compact directional scone to a series of statement chandeliers.

10. Oslin Lighting Collection by LUUM

The London-based lighting studio is dedicated to the design and manufacture of spectacular light installations that stir a sense of wonder, excitement and energy.

Their latest lighting collection, Oslin, is their first collaboration with an external designer — David Irwin, and it’s a scalable and modular lighting system that’s centred around a 3-spoke component. The lighting collection comes in 10 configurations ranging from small pendants to large chandeliers in a range of small and glass finishes.
