Alton Wines is nestled in an exciting cave and is surrounded by vineyards. It was initially deemed unfarmable due to the soil’s makeup and location.

Located in a vineyard near Walla Walla in Southeastern Washington, GO’C designed the wine garden and tasting room. The design firm aimed to create a building that embraced the landscape and is also sensitive.

The building’s flat roof has a chimney stack which helps anchor the building. It also has an extruded skylight that allows tons of natural light. GO’C created a single-story building that sits quietly in its core-like setting.

Rectangular in plan, the exterior walls are clad in cedar rain-screen and utilise a rigorous structural gird. The Tasting Room is open, airy and inviting and is available to guests whose top priority is to linger.

It is also flexible for events and other programs. The structure is made out of a sheltering roof that is pierced by 3 elements — an extruded skylight, a carved roof opening at the entry and an anchoring chimney stack.
