The Bouroullec Brothers

Ronan Bouroullec is a French designer and artist based in Paris. He has been designing alongside his brother, Erwan, for companies like Vitra, Ligne Roset, Artek, Flos, Kartell, and Hay amongst others.

Ronan is also known for creating meticulous and delicate drawings where he repeats sequences of lines, by hand with a Japanese felt tip brush.

Ronan has signed his first collaboration with the Manufacture de Sevres. The lighting pieces, designed by Ronan, consist of an aluminium base designed in 3 sizes. Named the Sevres Lamps, Ronan’s new lighting collection was displayed at the Manufacture de Sevres stand at the inauguration of the international design and decorative arts fair Design Miami/Paris.

The lamps are composed of a crisp and clear aluminium base contrasted by a delicately glazed porcelain aureole and come in 3 heights and sizes, allowing users to mix and match them to create a multitude of combinations.

The lamps have a mushroom cap-like form of the aureoles, which are informed by Bouroullec’s quest for delicacy but also rigour was developed through hand-throwing the clay — a technique that requires precision and sensuality.

Some lamp pieces are covered in subtle striations that resemble those found in an eye’s iris and others feature explosive patterns that radiate outwards from the centre like fireworks. Bouroullec’s take on Manufacture Nationale de Sevres age-old techniques has spawned a collection that reimagines ceramics while honouring the institution’s traditional craftsmanship.

The lighting’s collection has a varied colour palette which ranges from pale blues and yellows to deep reds and greens and each piece has a distinct personality.
